Situated within the Victorian Midlands region, the project area bears the historical burden of habitat destruction and degradation, predominantly stemming from agricultural activities and mining. These human interventions have induced alterations in the landscape and ecosystems, adversely affecting the native flora and fauna. Through the reforestation initiative, which involves the planting of native species, the project seeks to counteract the impacts of these activities and restore the ecological diversity and balance in the region.
Numerous native animal species rely on native woodlands, and our reforestation project seeks to augment vital wildlife habitat for a diverse range of animals.
Reforesting the project area will support bird life by providing key food sources, nesting habitats, migratory stop-overs and grounds and enhancing woodland connectivity in the landscape.
The aim of reforestation in the project area with woodland tree species is to mitigate climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide and improving overall air quality. Native trees play a crucial role in maintaining ecosystem health by promoting soil stability, preventing erosion, and enhancing water quality through natural filtration processes. Additionally, the native trees provide crucial habitat and food sources for a variety of local wildlife. The selection of tree species for our reforestation project is meticulously tailored, considering climate variables such as elevation and precipitation, as well as factors like growth rates, carbon accumulation potential, and their irreplaceable value to native wildlife.
* The project area might be modified until the time the planting starts in June 2024.
